The inaugurated section represents an investment of 2.3 million euros. Ramiro González, General Deputy of Álava, and Jon Nogales, Provincial Deputy for Sustainable Mobility and Road Infrastructures, officially opened the main 3.3-kilometer stretch this morning. This segment begins near the Araca military base and extends to the Álava Technology Park.
This new cycle path is part of the Bicycle Strategy of the Provincial Council of Álava, aiming to facilitate bicycle commutes for over 4,000 individuals working in this significant business hub. The connection will be completed by the end of the year with an additional 2.2-kilometer section between this point and the town of Gamarra, currently under construction by the Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council.
“"We are taking an important step to promote sustainable mobility between the capital of Álava and the Technology Park, which adds to the provincial support for the regular collective transport offer."
The path features an intelligent LED lighting system, making it usable during hours without natural light and ensuring safety year-round, with a gender perspective. A cyclist presence detection system activates only when cyclists are on the path, maximizing energy efficiency. Additionally, a bicycle repair station with tools for adjustments and mechanical issues has been installed near the Technology Park.
Nogales announced that the Provincial Council will continue to promote and build new cycle paths in the coming years, both around Vitoria-Gasteiz and in the different Cuadrillas of the Historical Territory. This year, the contract for drafting the project to define the route connecting two major towns in Rioja Alavesa, Laguardia and Elciego, will be put out to tender.
