The year's first heatwave has arrived forcefully in Vitoria and the territory of Álava. After weeks of instability and even cold weather, temperatures have soared. Several municipalities in the province surpassed 30 degrees on Thursday, a trend expected to continue for at least the next week.
The maximum temperatures recorded this Thursday, May 21st, according to data from Euskalmet and Aemet, were as follows: Gardea (35.5º), Saratxo (34.4º), Labastida (33.4º), Amurrio (32.5º), Vitoria (31.9º), Zambrana (31.7º), Sarria (31.6º), and Vitoria (Airport) (31.5º).
These hot days coincide with the opening of the municipal swimming pools in the capital of Álava. Mendizorrotza and Gamarra pools will start the season this Friday, while others like Estadio or Bakh have been open for several days, anticipating the summer weather.
According to AEMET's forecast, temperatures will reach or exceed 30 degrees in the coming days. North winds are expected over the weekend to cool the Vitoria nights, before the southeast wind prevails again from Monday onwards.
The detailed forecast from Euskalmet indicates clear skies with light to moderate south-southeast winds for Friday; mostly clear skies with prevailing southeast winds for Saturday; and mostly clear skies for Sunday, with a possibility of developing clouds in mountainous areas in the afternoon, accompanied by southerly winds.
