This project will traverse the Eurasian Silk Road, incorporating light mountaineering activities along the way. The adventure is set to begin in Singapore on September 1st or 2nd, with an estimated completion time of ten to twelve months to cover the 12,000 kilometers between the Asian city-state and Euskal Herria.
The project details were presented today at the Azpeitia City Hall, alongside the Head of the Sports Committee. According to the committee head, the originality of the Kokorotos Bike Life project was the most valued factor by the jury in deciding to award the grant, which is given in homage to the Azpeitian mountaineer Joxe Urbieta Takolo.
“"Whoever wants to travel happily must travel light. Every time we have traveled by bicycle, we have carried very little but have been very happy."
The project's proponents emphasize that cycling offers a unique closeness to people, nature, and culture, making them feel at home wherever they travel. This adventure, in addition to being a tremendous sporting challenge, including crossing the Pamir mountains, will reflect their philosophy of life and travel.
Throughout the journey, they intend to document and share their observations and learnings. Upon their return, they plan to create a half-hour short film to share their experiences. Furthermore, updates on the journey will be available via Instagram over the coming months.
The Kokorotos Bike Life project has a budget of 23,000 euros. Two-thirds of this amount will be self-funded, with the 4,000 euros from the Joxe Takolo Grant providing a significant contribution. Additionally, they have launched a crowdfunding campaign through the Gofundme platform and are seeking further alliances to find more sponsors.
