The association Goiener has organized for the fourth consecutive year the Udanbizi cycling tour, which this year will take place across Álava from July 13th to 17th.

The five-day event, starting in Dulantzi and ending in Vitoria-Gasteiz, will cover topics related to sustainable energy, as in previous editions. Discussions and visits have been organized to encourage more sustainable holidays and promote travel with a smaller ecological footprint.
The objective of the Udanbizi initiative is to bring together Goiener volunteers, members, and supporters to explore different parts of the Basque Country by bicycle. "In addition to promoting sustainable, just, and democratic energy models, it aims to showcase social, collaborative, and community-building objectives," explain the organizers.
On the first stage, between Dulantzi and Bernedo, cyclists will visit the paintings of the Alaitza church and the Sabando community biomass boiler. Afterwards, they will travel from Bernedo to Bastida, where they will discover the Erroiz oil mill and make a stop at a winery in Villabuena.
On July 16th, the Goiener group will move from Bastida to Gaubea, and during the 46-kilometer route, they will have the opportunity to learn about transformative agriculture firsthand with the organic farmers of Tierra, Papel, Tijera in Salcedo. They will also discuss Solaria's macro-projects in Álava.
The following day, cyclists will tour Gaubea and learn about the progress of the demolition of the Garoña nuclear power plant. On the gastronomic side, they will be able to taste bread made with old wheat varieties from Álava.
The final stage will lead them to Vitoria-Gasteiz, after a stop at the salt flats of Gesaltza Añanako. Udanbizi has been organized annually since 2023, combining training, discussion, and leisure.
As usual, places are limited this year, with a maximum of around 40 cyclists able to join the event. Those interested can register on the Goiener association's website. The cooperative warns that enthusiasm and a suitable bicycle are necessary to participate.
