The Provincial Council of Álava has approved an investment of 1.7 million euros to promote the sustainable management of Alavese forests in 2026 and 2027, supporting both public and private owners.

The Provincial Council of Álava has given the green light to a budget of 1,705,298 euros aimed at improving the conservation and management of forests in the territory. These aids will be implemented throughout 2026 and 2027, with the primary objective of protecting the forest wealth of Álava, in both public and private properties.
This subsidy covers various areas, including damage prevention, biodiversity conservation, facilitating adaptation to climate change, and maintaining the rural landscape of Álava. The Foral Government Council approved the resolution of the call for the Forest Aid Plan this Tuesday.
The aids are structured into three main areas: public forests, private forests, and demarcation and boundary marking. In the case of public forests, actions such as afforestation, prevention and repair of forest damage, silvicultural work for environmental purposes, and investments for the modernization of forests will be financed. In addition, infrastructures for forest development will also be supported.
The demarcation and boundary marking section, meanwhile, includes investments for determining and marking the real limits of Public Utility Forests in Álava. The beneficiary entities will be city councils, administrative boards, common lands, and brotherhoods. In total, 118 entities will receive 1,380,298 euros for the improvement of public forests.
Regarding private forests, 325,000 euros will be allocated to promote the restoration and active conservation of biodiversity, boost the competitiveness of forest products, and strengthen resilience against natural disasters or fires. Approximately one hundred private forest owners will benefit from these subsidies, allowing them to adapt Alavese forests to the current challenges of conservation and rural development.
