The festivity of Our Lady of Estíbaliz took place on May 1st, drawing hundreds of people who climbed the hill to enjoy a pleasant morning. Entire families, cyclists, and some tourists shared the space on a day where the weather was favorable, with bright sunshine partially covered by clouds.
Art was one of the main attractions with the quick painting contest. Numerous artists were spread around the area, capturing the essence of the sanctuary or the crypt with their brushes. Under the shade of trees or directly in the sun, the painters worked surrounded by curious onlookers, especially the younger ones, who observed every detail.
Dance was also present with the XXXIII Aurresku and Soinu Solteko Dance Championship of Euskadi. Simultaneously, sports claimed their place, with athletes wielding their swords near the aizkolaris, who competed in Herri Kirolak to see who could cut the log fastest. The heat was noticeable, and many ended up with their jackets tied around their waists while cheering on the competitors.
For the youngest, fun was found in the inflatables and children's games. However, in Estíbaliz, the stomach rules, and the big winners of the morning were talos and choripanes. Amidst the aroma of grilling, young bertsolaris offered a cultural competition in front of those queuing for food or drink.
Reaching the summit required a good dose of patience due to heavy traffic in the area. This forced many to leave their cars far from the parking lot and complete the ascent on foot. Alongside buses and cars, bicycles were the queens of the road, taking advantage of the good day to climb, fulfill the tradition, and return to Vitoria.
