In the upcoming regional and municipal elections in the Basque Autonomous Community, both the PNV and, particularly, EH Bildu are projected to improve their results, according to the May EITB Focus poll. The left-wing abertzale coalition would show the most significant growth, further consolidating the two-party trend: 35.9% for the PNV and 32.7% for EH Bildu. The survey indicates that the PNV would gain 0.8 points more than in previous elections, and EH Bildu 3.4 points more. Thus, the PNV would be the winner, but with a narrower margin than in the 2023 votes.
Furthermore, the PSE-EE and the PP would lose ground, with 2 and 1.8 points less respectively. Vox would achieve a 2.6% result according to the poll, only surpassing the 3% threshold in Álava. Both Elkarrekin Podemos and Sumar are expected to secure considerably lower results, raising questions about the electoral viability of presenting themselves divided.
Looking at the territories, in Bizkaia the PNV would win the regional elections, while EH Bildu would strengthen its upward trend. In Gipuzkoa, however, EH Bildu would be the winner (39.7%), with the PNV in second place (33.7%). In Álava, a close contest is predicted between these two parties, with only a 0.7 point difference in favor of the PNV. Across all territories, the PP, PSE-EE, and Elkarrekin Podemos candidacies are losing strength, while Vox is gaining ground, especially in Álava (4.6%).
Regarding Navarre, UPN would be the winner, securing 26.2% of the votes. The race for second place would be tight between the PSN (20.5%) and EH Bildu (19.9%). However, UPN would face difficulties in governing, as the right-wing forces (UPN, PP, and Vox) would fall short of an absolute majority. According to the poll, a coalition of PSN, EH Bildu, Geroa Bai, and the confederal left would have the opportunity to renew the Government of Navarre.
