The equipment, which had been in place for over three months, has been rendered completely unusable due to significant damage. The incident is believed to have occurred on the night of April 12-13. This facility was intended to enhance services for park users and ensure a more orderly and respectful use of the natural environment.
The Provincial Council strongly condemns this uncivil act, which not only represents a considerable economic loss but also an attack on common heritage. Furthermore, it hinders the proper management and conservation of a protected natural area, impacting visitor experience and compliance with environmental regulations.
The purpose of these types of infrastructures is to improve the visitor experience, facilitate compliance with environmental regulations, and reduce human impact on the natural environment; therefore, their destruction harms all citizens.
The provincial institution has initiated the necessary steps to assess the extent of the damage, proceed with the removal of the equipment for safety reasons, and explore possible replacement measures. The facts have also been reported to the competent authorities for appropriate action.
Finally, the Provincial Council of Álava has called for responsibility, respect, and coexistence, emphasizing that the conservation of Gorbeia Natural Park is a collective task and that the care of public infrastructures is essential to guarantee its enjoyment now and in the future.
