Elena López Barredo, Vice-Minister of Labor for the Basque Government, has offered to mediate the labor dispute between Tubos Reunidos management and its works council, while employees urge institutions to exert pressure on the company.

Vice-Minister Elena López Barredo met with the works council in Vitoria on Wednesday. The council announced that two more crucial meetings are scheduled for next week: one with Tubos Reunidos management, who initiated the call, and another with the Department of Industry and the Foral Council of Álava, set for April 16.
Concurrently with the meeting in Vitoria, approximately one hundred workers gathered outside the Lakua building, highlighting the gravity of the situation.

"We are clear on how to resolve the labor conflict: by urging the company to withdraw the ERE and discussing how to maintain the steelworks and logistics in Amurrio."

Oier Bidaurratzaga · LAB Union Delegate
According to Oier Bidaurratzaga, LAB union delegate, the council has reiterated to the Vice-Minister their three fundamental conditions for resolving the conflict: the withdrawal of the ERE, and the continued operation of the steelworks and logistics in Amurrio. These demands were also presented during the last meeting with the company in Bilbao.
The workforce feels that pressure is being placed on employees and unions, rather than demanding accountability from the company. For her part, López Barredo has guaranteed the thoroughness of the Labor Inspectorate's report and offered her mediation to reach an agreement that ensures the future viability of the steelworks.
