The staff of the autonomous body of Álava Firefighters has voted in favor of a preliminary agreement to establish their first labor convention, securing 73% of the votes, after almost ten years of the organization's existence.

Until now, it was the only public service in the Basque Autonomous Community without a regulatory agreement. This convention incorporates the specific characteristics of the firefighting service and equalizes the rights of its workers with those of the Foral Council of Álava staff, which was a key demand.
The agreement also sets a timeline for addressing other pending tasks, such as the procedure for extraordinary staff call-outs in emergency situations and job evaluations.

"There are still challenges remaining, such as the stabilization of the operational structure (middle management and more firefighters per shift) through competitive examinations, or conducting a proper job evaluation."
