The Provincial Council of Álava has taken a significant step towards implementing a pay-per-use system on the AP-68 highway, awarding a contract to design this model, which could lead to the introduction of tolls.

The service has been awarded to the UTE formed by KPMG Asesores and Ingartek Consulting for an amount of 264,990 euros and a ten-month execution period. Their role will be to provide technical support to the Department of Mobility throughout the process.
Initially, the work will focus on the Álava section of the AP-68. However, the Provincial Council leaves open the possibility of extending this system to other high-capacity roads in the future, aiming for more efficient management of the provincial road network.

"The objective is to design a model adapted to the reality of Álava."

It has been indicated that once the Provincial Council assumes management of the highway, the implementation of this payment system could imply changes in current tariffs, seeking greater equity and sustainability in the use of infrastructure.
