Despite there being more than 13 months until the elections, some political parties in Vitoria-Gasteiz have already started their electoral pre-campaign. Currently, the PSE and the PP are the only ones who have named their candidates, who are proving to be very active on social media.
These candidates, Maider Etxebarria and Iñaki García Calvo, are increasingly present on Instagram and TikTok. They publish videos that combine explanations about their management with more personal content, aiming to capture votes and connect with the public. This strategy, known as 'Permanent Campaign' and promoted by the PP 15 years ago, has become established in Vitoria-Gasteiz.
Furthermore, Garbiñe Ruiz, councilor and spokesperson for Elkarrekin, also uses social media to share videos about the reality of Vitoria-Gasteiz, being the councilor with the most followers on TikTok. Other councilors, such as Beatriz Artolazabal and Rocío Vitero, focus their activity on platforms like Instagram and X, showcasing their management and party proposals.
The candidates' activity on social media highlights the growing importance of digital platforms in electoral campaigns. Through videos, politicians seek to connect with citizens, both by explaining their political work and by showing a more personal side, which helps to create a more direct relationship with the electorate.
