The Vitoria-Gasteiz Local Police are investigating the vandalism of at least four surveillance cameras in the city's monitoring system, with damages potentially amounting to thousands of euros.

The Vitoria-Gasteiz Local Police are investigating the vandalism of at least four surveillance cameras installed in the city center. The targeted devices are located in several areas of the Casco Medieval (Medieval Quarter), and initial estimates place the damages at several thousand euros.
The attacks have also affected some cameras controlling access to the Low Emission Zone. The City Council has opened a formal investigation and is gathering information to try and locate the individuals responsible.
The first damages were detected last Friday. According to information provided by the City Council, the cameras were initially attacked with paint. Subsequently, further acts of vandalism occurred, where the devices were struck until they were rendered unusable.
The investigation is now focused on reconstructing the events and gathering data to identify those involved in these attacks. The affected cameras are part of the surveillance system installed in the central area; some are situated in the Casco Medieval, while others are used to monitor access to the Low Emission Zone.
The City Council estimates, in a preliminary assessment, that the damages amount to several thousand euros. The final figure will depend on the technical review of the damaged devices and the necessary repairs. The Local Police have opened an investigation into these incidents, and the inquiry is ongoing to clarify how many cameras were damaged, when the attacks occurred, and who is behind them.
