Organized by the Luis Aramburu Municipal Folklore School of Vitoria-Gasteiz, the Txistulari Concert will once again become a meeting point between tradition and contemporary creation on August 1st at 8:00 PM in Plaza Nueva. This event is consolidated as one of the most emblematic dates in the cultural calendar preceding the city's festivals.
This year's edition will have a special dimension, gathering nearly 40 txistularis from Euskal Herria and Vitoria-Gasteiz. They will be joined by musicians from the Municipal Folklore School specializing in trikitixa, percussion, txalaparta, and gaita, accompanied by an instrumental ensemble of wind and percussion. The artistic proposal will combine the strength of Basque musical roots with new contemporary sounds and sensibilities.
Among the invited artists is the Orfeón Donostiarra, one of Europe's most prestigious choral institutions. The expressive richness and artistic excellence of their voices will bring a unique dimension to the program.
Also participating will be Iñaki Ortiz de Villalba, formerly of Betagarri, a representative voice in contemporary Basque music whose career has bridged popular tradition and current musical languages.
Dance will also play a significant role thanks to the participation of Mulixka Dantza taldea. Their performances will enrich the scenic discourse by merging music and movement into a single artistic language.
Among the solo txistularis, Garikoitz Mendizabal and the Vitoria-Gasteiz Municipal Txistulari Band will stand out. Additionally, Kepa Junkera will be present to receive a special recognition for his work as an interpreter and creator in the world of trikitixa.
The musical direction of the concert will be led by Jon Larrauri Delika, a young Vitoria-native with extensive training and a promising professional career.
Culture and Education councilor Sonia Díaz de Corcuera states, "Beyond its artistic value, this concert is a celebration of intangible cultural heritage, a recognition of those who have kept tradition alive over time, and an invitation to experience, through emotion and creativity, one of the most genuine expressions of Basque culture."
The concert will be recorded live by Euskal Telebista cameras for broadcast on ETB1.
