The Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council has launched the Tourism Intelligence System (SIT), a digital tool to gather information on the city's tourism activity and improve its management. The project involved an investment of 112,000 euros.

This system, based on artificial intelligence, will offer a comprehensive view of the tourism activity in the Alava capital. It will allow for the understanding of aspects such as accommodation supply and demand, main source markets, visitor profiles and behavior, tourism's contribution to the economy and employment, air connectivity, and convention activity, aiming to advance in the management of sustainable tourism.
The SIT consolidates information from various official and specialized sources, including the National Statistics Institute (INE), Eustat, Basquetour, Dataestur (SEGITTUR), the Social Security, and the Basque Registry of Tourism Companies and Activities (REATE).
The platform combines a public portal, providing updated and accessible information to citizens, businesses, and sector agents, with an internal analysis environment for the City Council to support tourism management and planning.
The system is designed for the progressive incorporation of new information sources, indicators, and functionalities, enabling the expansion of knowledge about Vitoria-Gasteiz's tourism activity and response to new information needs.
The municipal departments of Economic Promotion, Employment, Commerce, and Tourism, the Department of Public Administration Modernization, and the Municipal Data Office participated in its development, with the collaboration of Basquetour. The SIT is part of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan financed by the European Union Next Generation funds, managed by the Spanish Government, and is included in the second phase of the Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan (PSTD2).
