The Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council will allocate approximately €800,000 to a new pavement renewal campaign that will address five streets and urban areas within the city. These interventions will take place on Alibarra, Olaguíbel, Madre Vedruna, and Portal de Gamarra streets, as well as in the Jacinto Benavente parking lot.
The work will involve milling and replacing the pavement in sections with significant deterioration, correcting issues such as cracks, subsidence, and unevenness affecting the roadway.
In addition to pavement renewal, the projects will include complementary actions such as adjusting covers and manholes, replacing curbs and other affected urban elements, and renewing horizontal signage.
Beatriz Artolazabal, Councilor for Public Space and Neighborhoods, emphasized the importance of such interventions for maintaining urban infrastructure and ensuring the safety of daily users. "Asphalting is not just maintenance; it's safety, comfort, and quality of life. We are acting where it is truly needed, on the streets and areas with the most use and evident deterioration," she stated.
The works will be planned to minimize disruptions to the city's mobility and daily activities. Interventions on Alibarra, Olaguíbel, and Portal de Gamarra will be carried out at night, while work on Madre Vedruna will proceed lane by lane to accommodate ongoing traffic.
The 2027 campaign will cover over 14,000 square meters of roadway and is estimated to take eight weeks.
Artolazabal also noted that the list of planned interventions is not final. "It's not a closed list. The contract includes improvements from the awarded companies, and we will demand that, with the same budget, we cover the largest possible area. This will allow us to reach more streets without increasing costs," she explained.
The approved plan is part of a continuous line of work throughout the legislature, during which the City Council has conducted annual asphalting campaigns.
In 2023, over 15,000 square meters were renewed with an investment of €556,000, including interventions in Zurrupitieta and the section of Portal de Bergara towards the municipal limit.
During the 2024-2025 period, more than 44,000 square meters were renewed with an investment of €1.6 million in areas such as Gorbea, Honduras, Micaela Portilla, the vicinity of Portal de Foronda, and Avenida de San Prudencio.
In total, the current legislature has seen over €2 million invested and nearly 60,000 square meters of pavement renewed across more than 20 streets and sections of the city.
