The Alavesa capital will immerse itself in a medieval atmosphere from September 25th to 27th with a new edition of the Medieval Market in its historic center. This established event will fill streets, squares, and gardens with crafts, gastronomy, music, characters, shows, parades, and activities for all audiences, highlighting new productions and spaces designed for family enjoyment.
The main novelty of this year's edition will be ‘La Aldea del Gigante Thamur’, an ambitious production located in the Burullería square. Visitors can delve into the particular universe of this mysterious, extraordinarily strong character, discovering curious corners of his home such as ‘La Herrería de Thamur’ or ‘La Despensa del Gigante’. The giant's village will come alive throughout the weekend with stories, participatory workshops, circus acts, dances, children's activities, and shows.
One of the highlights will be the grand parade ‘El Gigante Thamur’, starting from the Burullería square on Saturday and Sunday at 7:00 PM, leading the protagonist through the market streets. Additionally, on Saturday at 1:30 PM, ‘Los Errantes de la Puerta Encantada’ will offer another fantastic parade, inviting the public into a world of surprising creatures and characters.
Another significant novelty will be ‘El Oasis’, situated next to the Fray Zacarías municipal building. This new children's area, inspired by the universe of ‘One Thousand and One Nights’, will feature the elephants Zahra al-Fil and Abu al-Fil sharing the magic of their setting with children. It will be a space for games, stories, activities, and small adventures, designed for families to enjoy a specially created atmosphere for the little ones.
The children's area ‘El Oasis’ will be open on Friday from 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM, and on Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM and 5:00 PM to 9:30 PM. It will also include ‘El árbol del Oasis’, a storytelling session on Saturday and Sunday at 11:30 AM. Furthermore, the medieval camp, set up this year in the Jardín de la Falerina, will offer a glimpse into daily life during the Middle Ages.
Beyond these special areas, the Medieval Market will offer an extensive program across various points in the historic center over its three days. Parades, music, circus acts, storytelling, workshops, fantasy characters, itinerant performances, reenactments, and participatory activities will take place from morning till night. National and international companies will participate in a program designed for visitors to find activities at every turn, experiencing the Market as a grand historical and fantasy immersion.
Craftsmanship and gastronomy will also play a fundamental role, with numerous themed stalls lining the streets of the Medieval Almond. María Nanclares, the Councilor for Economic Promotion, Employment, Commerce, and Tourism, highlighted that Vitoria-Gasteiz is preparing for three days where history and fantasy will once again blend in the heart of the city. This year, the program will particularly strengthen activities for children and families in Basque, including storytelling and puppet shows.
