The municipality of Leioa will celebrate a special event as part of its 500th-anniversary program on September 19th. In the morning, "treasures" buried 25 years ago by the town's children and youth will be recovered in Pinosolo Park. In the afternoon, the celebration will continue with live music performances next to the Lamiako metro station, featuring Still Rising, Janus Lester, and La M.O.D.A.
The morning events will kick off at 10:30 AM with the Citizen March at Pedestrian Pace, starting from the Bidebarri Boulevard and passing through various points of the municipality until reaching Pinosolo Park, where around 1,200 tuppers buried in 2001 will be recovered. These tuppers contain objects, photographs, and messages that participants from that time decided to save for the future.
The City Council will act as organizer, and the event will include animation and complementary activities along the route and at Pinosolo. The aim is for those who participated in the initiative to reconnect with their memories and with those they shared the experience with. "It will be a moment of reunion with childhood," stated the mayor of Leioa, Iban Rodriguez Etxebarria.
Participants must present their ID to collect their treasure. If collection is delegated, the representative must show their ID and the assigned personal code. Those unable to attend on Saturday can collect their treasure later at the Pinosolo Baserri, between September 23rd and October 30th, during established hours.
In the afternoon, at the parking lot next to the Lamiako metro station, three free concerts will be offered. Still Rising will perform at 7:00 PM, followed by Janus Lester at 8:30 PM, and La M.O.D.A. will close the day at 11:00 PM.
Traffic changes have also been planned. The parking lot must be clear of cars from Thursday, and on Friday, September 19th, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 AM, there will be major traffic disruptions. The public is advised to use public transport, especially Metro Bilbao and Bizkaibus.
Furthermore, the initiative will continue: children born between 2015 and 2020 will receive a new tupper to store their future memories. These will be buried on October 31st, coinciding with Leioa's 500th anniversary.
