The Local Government Board of Vitoria-Gasteiz will approve this Friday the tender for the installation of 28 new surveillance cameras in various city areas. These new devices will offer greater capabilities than current cameras and will cover several locations with a high number of police interventions, such as the Aldabe-Coronación and Francia-San Antón axes, as well as the section of Avenida de Gasteiz between Chile and San Viator streets.
Surveillance will thus extend from the Medieval Quarter and the Ensanche to the neighborhoods of El Anglo, Coronación, and Txagorritxu. Additionally, several cameras in the Medieval Quarter will be replaced with more versatile and efficient models. The contract also includes the maintenance of all cameras, both existing and new. A budget of 150,000 euros (VAT included) has been allocated for this purpose.
A total of 13 locations have been selected for the new devices. Six sites will have three cameras installed, two other locations will receive two cameras, and the remaining four will have a single camera. All will feature high-resolution sensors, and many will include the PTZ function (pan, tilt, zoom), allowing the camera to rotate, tilt, and zoom in on the image.
Other features will include video analytics, motion detection, event-specific alerts, night vision via infrared illumination, adjustable video speed, and varifocal optics for focusing on specific image areas. The planned system will also enable advanced searches in recordings and remote focus/zoom adjustments, along with encryption and authentication mechanisms to protect data transmission. All installed equipment will comply with the parameters set by the Basque Government's Videovigilance and Liberties Commission.
The cameras will be accompanied by a new centralized recording system capable of supporting the entire surveillance network. They will also be integrated into the municipal data network and the viewing and management post at the CECOP in Aguirrelanda.
Security councilor César Fernández de Landa stated, “We are continuing the renovation initiated in 2024 and expanding coverage to new areas of the city with more capable equipment fully integrated into the Local Police system. Videovigilance serves a triple objective: supporting crime prevention, playing an increasingly important role in investigations, and improving response times to incidents.”
Following the formalization of the installation contract, the awarded company will have a period of four months to complete the necessary work.
