Citizens of Vitoria-Gasteiz have broken the record with 126,824 pre-registrations for municipal activities for the upcoming course. This figure surpasses the 2019 pre-pandemic record of 105,741.
This year, the number of applicants reached 29,866, an increase of 177 compared to last year. The draw using the new system took place this morning, successfully allocating 30,452 places in this first round out of the 32,889 available through the draw system.
The remaining 5,613 places, offered by various municipal departments for a total of 38,502, will be distributed starting September 16th on a first-come, first-served basis.
The 25,218 individuals who secured a place in this first round have until September 7th to finalize their registration and payment. Subsequently, two more draw rounds will be held on September 8th and 11th to allocate as many remaining places as possible. Any spots still vacant will be distributed by registration order on September 18th.
Miren Fernández de Landa, councilor for Open Government and Civic Centers, expressed the City Council's satisfaction: “The new system has been successfully launched, ensuring a more equitable distribution. Next week, we will conduct two more allocation rounds with the aim of minimizing remaining spots for the general distribution day, thereby reducing queues and situations where not everyone has equal access. We strive for equal opportunities.”
The councilor also highlighted that “although we are approaching the 30,000 applicant mark – a milestone achieved in 2018 and 2019 before the pandemic – our focus is not solely on numbers, but on the significance of civic centers in the daily lives and well-being of Gasteiz residents. It's fantastic that activities like yoga, pottery, or family games are becoming part of their routine.”
