The Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council has awarded for 266,225 euros the works to improve pedestrian accessibility in the Santa Lucía neighborhood, as part of a project selected by citizens.

The Local Government Board of Vitoria-Gasteiz has awarded the company Estudios y Obras Recalde the contract for improving pedestrian accessibility between Los Astrónomos and Vicente Aleixandre streets, in the Santa Lucía neighborhood, for 266,225 euros. The contract has an execution period of 32 weeks and represents a saving of over 21,500 euros compared to the bidding budget.
This intervention, selected by citizens through the Vitoria-Gasteiz Hobetuz program, will allow for overcoming the significant elevation difference between Los Astrónomos, Vicente Aleixandre, and Jacinto Benavente streets, where stairs and steep slopes currently hinder pedestrian movement.
The project includes the construction of an accessible ramp between Los Astrónomos and Vicente Aleixandre streets, the renovation of the connection towards Jacinto Benavente with a new path featuring stairs, and the creation of a pedestrian crossing. Lighting, drainage, and paving will also be improved, while respecting existing trees.
The award also includes an extension of two years to the warranty period, establishing it at three years. With this agreement, the City Council takes another step towards realizing a citizen proposal that will enhance accessibility and pedestrian routes in Santa Lucía.
