Vitoria-Gasteiz will host the national Senior Badminton Masters at the Aranalde sports center this weekend, on September 12th and 13th. This tournament, which counts towards the state ranking, will bring together 105 athletes from various autonomous communities and 43 clubs.
The competition is organized by the Araba Badminton Federation, with the collaboration of the Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council, the Provincial Council of Álava, the Basque Badminton Federation, and Vital Fundazioa.
Ana López de Uralde, the Councilor for Sport, highlighted the tournament's importance in "promoting sports practice at all ages and valuing senior sports". She also emphasized Vitoria-Gasteiz's capacity to host state-level sporting events.
Ana del Val, the Provincial Deputy for Culture and Sport, stated that "for two days, Aranalde will bring together athletes from different generations who continue to compete, enjoy, and share their passion for badminton".
The competition will feature 65 men and 40 women, representing 43 clubs. Players with licenses in Spanish clubs from other nationalities will also participate. The Alava representation will consist of seven athletes.
The event will gather athletes with significant competitive experience, including current Spanish champions and participants from the recent World Championships held in Thailand.
Over the two days, more than 240 matches will be played in the following categories: women's singles, men's singles, women's doubles, men's doubles, and mixed doubles.
Saturday's matches will begin at 8:30 AM with mixed doubles, and Sunday, starting at 9:00 AM, will feature the semi-finals and finals for singles and doubles events.
The matches will be played best of three sets of 21 points. The medal and trophy ceremony will take place on Sunday, September 13th, at 1:30 PM.
