The historic territory of Álava is preparing to host one of the year's most decisive events in ecological transition and economic development. This upcoming June 3rd, the Arkabia space in Vitoria-Gasteiz will open its doors to celebrate the 5th Greenencounter.
Under the slogan "Competitiveness and sustainability: Driving agents in our territory", this forum, organized by Diario de Noticias de Álava, is consolidating itself as a key meeting point for the business, institutional, and social fabric.
The event will kick off at 9:30 AM with a high-level institutional welcome. The opening will be led by César Martín, director of Diario de Noticias de Álava; Irantzu Allende, Vice Minister of Energy Transition for the Basque Government; and Maider Etxebarria, mayor of Vitoria-Gasteiz.
An international perspective will arrive at 9:45 AM from the European Commission. The forum will feature Johan Stierna, lead scientist at JRC Fair and Sustainable Economy and co-author of the prestigious Draghi Report on the future of European competitiveness, who will outline the continental challenge of combining sustainability with economic strength.
Immediately after, at 10:05 AM, attention will shift to the local and urban sphere with the roundtable discussion "Smarter, more sustainable, and healthier cities". Participants will include Mattheus Bil (Luznor), Alejandro Martínez Berriochoa (Eroski), and Mikel Ibarra (ACILMA), moderated by Ibone Ametzaga (UPV/EHU).
At 10:50 AM, the "Changemakers - Innovating with energy" block will highlight energy and practical cases, focusing on Iberdrola. Contributions will come from Roberto Garay Martínez (Deusto Sustainable Research Group, University of Deusto) and Fernando García (Data Science Coordinator at BCAM).
Following a coffee break and networking session at 11:10 AM, activities will resume at 11:40 AM with a panel dedicated to industry and sectoral balance. Speakers include Natalia Díaz de Arcaya (EVE), Marieli Arroyo (Kutxabank), and Alexander Boto (Ihobe-Basque Government), moderated by Stephania Mosquera (Orkestra).

At 12:45 PM, the forum will focus on the future of the Alava capital with the "Changemakers - The Vitoria-Gasteiz we want" session. Six young participants from Unicities 2030 will present their proposals for six real city challenges. This will be enriched by the insights of Roberto González Argote (CEA) and a presentation by Ruth Brito, Long Distance Triathlon World Champion.
The event will conclude at 1:30 PM with the official closing, marking the end of an essential day sponsored by Iberdrola and Kutxabank, with collaboration from Luznor, Eroski, Aclima, Ihobe, Fundación Vital, and Motor Gorbea.
