Antonio Sivera, who has defended the colors of Deportivo Alavés for nine seasons, faces significant uncertainty regarding his future as his contract is set to expire in 2027. The club must decide whether to extend his contract, transfer him this summer for economic gain, or risk losing him without compensation next year.
Should Sivera stay, it would mark his tenth consecutive season with Alavés, a milestone achieved by only four other players in the club's history. Furthermore, he ranks as the second-highest goalkeeper in terms of appearances in the top flight with 116 matches, trailing only Fernando Pacheco.
His journey in Vitoria-Gasteiz began in 2017 when he left Valencia seeking playing time. After a challenging start and a loan spell at Almería, he found his place in 2022, becoming a cornerstone in the team's promotion to the Second Division and subsequent top-flight survival, notably under coach Eduardo Coudet.
In the most recent season, he has solidified his reputation as one of LALIGA's top goalkeepers, being an undisputed starter and crucial to the team's survival. He only missed Copa del Rey commitments, where Raúl Fernández was given an opportunity.
His consistent performance has made him a sought-after player, attracting transfer interest each summer. While the player expresses contentment in Vitoria-Gasteiz and gratitude towards the club, his contract situation necessitates a resolution, given the possibility of negotiating with other teams from January onwards.
Alavés must now decide whether to make a strong push for his renewal, sell him this summer, or accept the risk of him departing for free. Losing Sivera, who has played 177 matches and become a solid reference point for the squad, would represent a significant blow to the team.
