Ana López de Uralde, the Councilor for Sport, explained that “The installation of the rink creates a great Christmas atmosphere in La Florida with many attractions for the residents of Vitoria-Gasteiz, who have made this space one of their favorites and one of the most visited during the Christmas holidays in recent years”.
The leisure space will be made of natural ice and will have a minimum area of 700 square meters. Additionally, a separate area for children's skating or learning, with a minimum surface of 75 square meters, will be installed, demarcated from the main rink by fencing.
The rink will be open to the public from December 11, 2026, to January 6, 2027. The minimum operating hours will be from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM in the morning and from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM in the afternoon. On December 24th and 31st, afternoon hours will be reduced to 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, although there will be late-night sessions from 10:00 PM to 12:00 AM, primarily aimed at young people.
In the last two years, the ice rink in La Florida has become a very popular attraction. During Christmas 2024, it registered 20,569 users, and last year usage grew by 10% to reach a total of 22,788.
The new tender specifications only include the installation of the ice rink, omitting the toboggan that had been set up in previous years. The 68% decrease in user numbers last season led the Sports Service to decide against its inclusion.
The company Eska Espacios y Eventos has been awarded the contract for the installation of the ice rink for the next three years, after submitting an offer of 180,000 euros (VAT included).
