The Praia de Razo in A Coruña hosted the EDOMMO SURF PRO RAZO, a World Surf League event on the Costa da Morte. The competition featured numerous Basque surfers, with three athletes from Basque Team securing podium spots. Yago Domínguez and Ariane Ochoa claimed victory, while Janire Gonzalez-Etxabarri earned the silver medal in the women's division.
This year marked a significant change as the event transitioned from a Junior championship to a QS 2,000, open to all surfers on the World Surf League qualifying circuit. For four days, Razo beach in Carballo became a hub for international surfing, renowned for its consistent waves and a competition format that attracted top talents from the circuit.
Yago Domínguez began his campaign in the round of 64, winning his heat with a score of 13.37. In the round of 32, he faced fellow Basque Team member Ruben Vitoria, whom he surpassed (11.50 vs 10.76). In the round of 16, Domínguez again competed against other Basque surfers, advancing with 10.33 points, followed by Kai Odriozola (9.27). In the quarterfinals, he defeated Andy Criere, another Basque Team surfer, with a score of 14.17. In the semifinals, he clearly beat British surfer Lukas Skinner (7.33 vs 3.00). In the final, Domínguez emerged victorious against Frenchman Thomas Debierre with a crucial second wave scoring 8.67.
In the women's category, Ariane Ochoa took the win, demonstrating a consistently strong season. Both Yago and Ariane, along with Janire, are currently competing in the Challenger Series, but they chose to participate in these QS events before the ISA World Championship. Janire Gonzalez-Etxabarri secured the silver medal after a close final against Ariane Ochoa.
In addition to the victories of Yago Domínguez and Ariane Ochoa and the silver medal for Janire Gonzalez-Etxabarri, other notable results from the Galician championship include fifth-place finishes for Kai Odriozola, Andy Criere, Bitor Garitaonandia, and Leticia Canales, and a thirteenth-place finish for Ruben Vitoria.
