The arrested individual, who has prior police records for similar offenses, allegedly took advantage of a moment of carelessness by the victim, an acquaintance, to obtain her home keys and steal a significant amount of cash.
The incident began on May 22nd. On that morning, the homeowner met with the now-detained woman for coffee, and they traveled in the victim's vehicle.
After the meeting, the victim went to work. Upon returning to her car at the end of her workday, she discovered her house keys on the ground next to the vehicle, despite being certain she had left them inside the car.
Upon arriving at her home in the Zabalgana neighborhood, the woman discovered that 1,500 euros in cash were missing, money she had kept in a box for an immediate payment.
Following this discovery, the victim filed a report at the Ertzain-etxea in Vitoria-Gasteiz, where she informed officers that she recalled telling her acquaintance about the existence of the money and its intended purpose.
The Ertzaintza launched an investigation to clarify the events. Through police inquiries conducted in the following days, officers were able to confirm that the perpetrator of the theft was the victim's acquaintance.
The Ertzaintza arrested the suspect, aged 41 and with previous records for similar offenses, this Monday, as the alleged perpetrator of a residential burglary. After being taken to the Vitoria-Gasteiz police facilities for the relevant proceedings, the woman was released pending a summons from the competent judicial authority.
