Over 200 individuals convened in Vitoria-Gasteiz for a conference organized by UNICEF and the Basque Government, aiming to promote child and adolescent care models and safe environments within the framework of Law 2/2024.

The conference held today in Vitoria-Gasteiz focused on advancing the Child and Adolescent Care Model and fostering safe and protective environments for children and adolescents in Euskadi, in line with Law 2/2024 on Childhood and Adolescence. Through expert insights and pilot experiences from various municipalities, the local violence prevention model, Childhood Without Violence, and the Conscious Gaze process for residential care in protection centers were presented.

"We want to involve Third Sector entities, professionals, families, community resources, and also the children and adolescents themselves. Because they are not just recipients of protection. They are also protagonists, they have a voice, they have judgment, and they have the right to be heard. This approach seems particularly valuable to me because it places prevention where it truly needs to be: in schools, in neighborhoods, in sports, in leisure, in local services, and in the spaces where girls, boys, and adolescents grow, interact, and build their daily lives."

Nerea Melgosa · Councillor
During the event, representatives from municipalities such as Paracuellos de Jarama and Daganzo shared their experiences and the positive outcomes of the Childhood Without Violence model. Additionally, Almudena Olagibel, a protection specialist from UNICEF Spain, provided an in-depth discussion on violence prevention and the promotion of positive treatment for minors.

"Today we are not just here to share experiences or present models. We are here to assume a collective responsibility. That of ensuring that no child grows up in an environment that is not safe, protective, and respectful of their rights."

Joseba Madariaga · President of UNICEF Euskadi
