OPPS!!!!, an interior design studio, and Margotu Pintores Margolariak, specialists in decorative painting, are two companies from Álava working complementarily to transform spaces. Leading them are Mertxe Peña and Jaione Elkoro (OPPS!!!! Interior Design Studio) and Rubén Peña (Margotu Pintores Margolariak), who aim to create homes, commercial spaces, offices, etc. – any personalized space that improves people's lives. Their collaboration is based on the idea that a renovation goes beyond aesthetics, involving layout, lighting, and materials to truly make a space a home.
A comprehensive renovation can be a complex and stressful process due to dust, construction, and decision-making. As Mertxe Peña explains, "During a renovation, you need to be present, you have to ensure the bricklayer, the plumber, the electrician are all coordinated." Therefore, OPPS!!!! Estudio manages the entire project, from processing building permits at the town hall to coordinating trades, always working with trusted professionals.
“"The goal is for clients to feel comfortable in their spaces, as a home or a workplace is a space where we spend many hours."
The aim is to create functional and welcoming environments that facilitate daily life, with warm lighting and solutions for easy relaxation, storage, and organization.
Regarding trends, the Nordic style remains prominent, emphasizing relaxing and bright spaces, natural light, and materials like wood. However, some trends have surprisingly returned, such as the color gold. Mertxe Peña recalls its reappearance in Milan with surprise: "The initial feeling was very strange because gold had disappeared here, and you visualized the gold from your grandmother's house." Ultimately, combined differently, "you end up liking it because it fits into different spaces."
On the other hand, some trends seem to have vanished permanently, like 'gotelé' (textured paint). Rubén Peña, from Margotu Pintores Margolariak, states that people now prefer smooth walls, as "the colors are also different on smooth surfaces." While acknowledging exceptions and occasional client requests, his opinion is clear: "Certain trends are not coming back."
“"The collaboration is gratifying and the results are very good."
The collaboration between OPPS Estudio and Margotu is fluid and beneficial for the client. Teamwork, according to Rubén Peña, is "easy and gratifying because the results are very good." This synergy is complemented by the use of new technologies, allowing clients to visualize the final outcome before the work begins. "It's much easier to show what we want to achieve with the renovation," explains Jaione Elkoro, which provides peace of mind to clients and facilitates the work of all involved trades.
In addition to renovating homes and commercial spaces, such as the one they did at the restaurant in the Palacio de Añana, they also work on new housing projects. In these cases, they help future owners plan the layout of kitchens, bathrooms, and bedrooms before handover, adapting the space to their needs from the outset. Word-of-mouth and social media are their primary channels for attracting clients, both in Vitoria-Gasteiz and Mondragón, etc...
