Zumaia gears up for San Telmo festival repetitions with extensive program

The town will host a weekend full of activities, including sardine feasts, competitions, and concerts, before the official farewell to the festivities.

Zumaia will host the repetitions of the San Telmo festivities this weekend, from April 19th to 21st, offering residents and visitors a diverse agenda of events before the flag-lowering ceremony.

After an intense previous weekend of fairgrounds, parties, drum parades, and concerts, Zumaia is ready to embark on the repetitions of the San Telmo festivities. Following a brief respite, the town will once again immerse itself in the festive atmosphere with a program full of activities.
Before the flag-lowering ceremony at midnight on Sunday at the Cofradía, both Zumaiarras and visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy various activities. The town council has announced that the sardine feast by Zumaiako Herri Eskola will take place on Saturday, not Sunday, as initially announced. Additionally, on Friday and Sunday, the San Telmo hermitage can be visited from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
On Friday, Eusebio Gurrutxaga plaza will host open igel toka and pote championships, organized by the Beheko Plaza association, for different age groups. In the afternoon, there will be a tribute to Txatori on the cliff, the III. Irrintzi Lehiaketa in Amaiako plaza, and a bertsofesta in Oxford. In the evening, the txosnagune will be the setting for the Bertsio Gaua, featuring cover versions by various bands.
On Saturday, Eusebio Gurrutxaga plaza will be the meeting point for the 26. Olagarro Zopa Lehiaketa, enlivened by the trikitilaris Elustondo anai-arrebak. Throughout the morning, Bizijolas games and workshops will also be held in the same square. In Saregile plaza, teachers and families from Zumaiako Herri Eskola will offer grilled sardines. In the afternoon, there will be a traditional Basque sports exhibition in Odieta and Iagomago's show Etorri eta ikusi at the Cofradía. In the evening, a giant screen will be set up in Odieta to watch the Copa del Rey final between Real and Atlético de Madrid, and there will be concerts in the txosnagune and Torreberri.
Sunday will begin with the goiz soinua through the town's streets with the Zumai txaranga, followed by a horse race on Itzurun beach. In the afternoon, rowing regattas will be held on the river: the 41st San Telmo saria for men and the XII San Telmo saria for women. To conclude the day, a concert by the group Samba Badago and a romería with the group Olgetan at the Cofradía, before the flag-lowering ceremony and the farewell to the santelmos at midnight.
