Zarautz City Council has given initial approval to a 7.5 million euro credit modification, allocating 1.2 million euros for the construction of a new sidewalk on Talaimendi bidea.

The Zarautz City Council, in its ordinary May plenary session, has granted initial approval to a credit modification to increase the municipal budget by 7.5 million euros. The proposal was presented by the Councillor for Economy and Finance, Jesús Arana, and received favorable votes from the Municipal Government, composed of EAJ-PNV and PSE-EE, while EH Bildu voted against.
"This proposal clearly reflects what this Municipal Government offers to the people of Zarautz: efficient management and responsible use of economic resources to act with determination and a vision for the future," stated Arana. "This credit modification allows us to mobilize the treasury surplus from the 2025 fiscal year and transform it into investment, allocating it to projects and initiatives with a direct impact on citizens' well-being."
One of the main projects to be addressed is the construction of the new sidewalk on Talaimendi bidea. This is an action highly demanded by the public and a priority for the Municipal Government for some time, which can now become a reality. The City Council is already working on the execution project, and the credit modification will allow for the incorporation of a 1.2 million euro allocation to develop this action, planned between 2026 and 2027.
Additionally, 650,000 euros will be added (bringing the total to 900,000 euros) to the renovation project for the pavement of Munoa plaza, with execution to commence after the works planned within the LIFE IP Urban Klima 2050 action on the promenade are completed. Furthermore, 650,000 euros will be allocated to the renovation of the roof of Ebro Etxea, an investment that is part of the improvement and maintenance actions for Zarautz's public buildings.
The sports sector is one of the main beneficiaries of this credit modification, with an investment increase of 3.6 million euros dedicated to two major projects. Firstly, 3.3 million euros will be allocated, with 1.7 million in 2026 and 1.6 million committed for 2027, for the replacement of natural grass with artificial turf at the Asti football field. Secondly, an additional 300,000 euros will be designated for the construction of new paddle tennis courts, bringing the total investment to 750,000 euros.
In addition, new allocations will be incorporated to continue renewing and improving infrastructure in various parts of the town. Notable actions include an additional 100,000 euros (bringing the total to 375,000 euros) for the renovation of three children's playgrounds. The City Council also plans improvements at the Santa Bárbara viewpoint, investments in traffic lights and road safety, as well as actions in Civil Protection in collaboration with Zingira Babes Zibila Zarautz and in public facilities. Interventions are also planned for the water and sanitation network, in collaboration with Gipuzkoako Urak, the improvement of public roads and paths, and the maintenance of public lighting. "All these actions consolidate the City Council's commitment to the well-being of the citizens," indicated Arana.
