In Urrestilla, a neighborhood of Azpeitia, the San Juan festivities will be celebrated from June 13th to 26th. Prior to the official start, the weekend will feature initial events: on Saturday, the San Joan herri krosa (popular race) will take place, and on Sunday, the Day of the Elderly will be observed. As part of this day, there will be a mass at 12:00 PM, followed by a special performance for the 50th anniversary of the dance group Sahatsa. The day will conclude with a mid-morning snack, lunch, and bingo.
Following this weekend, events will continue on Friday, June 19th. On this day, the group Benta Zaharreko Mutiko Alaiak will perform, and the long-awaited Basque pelota festival will be revived at the Txikuri fronton. On Saturday, June 20th, there will be traditional Basque sports (herri kirolak) and concerts, and on Monday, June 22nd, Gukak will organize a children's corner at 5:30 PM.
On the eve of San Juan, June 23rd, a Tuesday, the festivities will officially commence with the planting of the San Juan tree (lizarra sartzea) at 00:00 AM. The previous day, a popular dinner will be held, and at midnight, the San Juan bonfire will be lit, followed by a romería (traditional Basque dance) with the group Laket. On June 24th, San Juan's Day, there will be a street parade of young trikitixa players, giants, and cabezudos, as well as a performance by the Azpeitia Municipal Band, among other events. After the main mass, concerts will be held in the afternoon.
On June 25th, San Juan Txiki Day, festivities will include cider tasting, a mus card game tournament, and inflatable attractions for children. Finally, on Friday, June 26th, the festivities will conclude with children's games, a potato omelet competition, and the burial of the tree.
During the festival days, special bus services have been arranged from Azpeitia to Urrestilla for those wishing to attend. There will be departures and returns on June 20th, 23rd, and 24th, with specific timetables.
