Orio Rowing Club has had an excellent weekend. The men secured their second banner this weekend in Hondarribia, in a race conditioned by the wind, while the women also had a very strong race, finishing second in the Balfego Women's Banner. Thanks to these results, they have moved up to fourth place in the overall standings, tied on points with Astilleros.
First, the Euskotren League's Balfego Women's Banner was contested. Although the prize went to Arraun Lagunak, the other boats provided more than one surprise. Zumaia won the first heat and overtook two of the boats in the honor tanda. Despite being in last place in the overall standings, they showed they are ready to fight. Furthermore, Orio had an excellent race – despite having issues with their small boat during the turn – and finished second, eight seconds behind the leader. The Orio team is seeking its place, and if they were fifth in the standings until now, they have taken a step forward today.

Next, the thirteenth round of the Eusko Label League was held in the same location, the 39th Hondarribia Banner. Similar to yesterday in Ondarroa (Bizkaia), the San Nikolas boat was the fastest today, competing not only against those in its heat but also against those from other heats. The gusty winds significantly influenced today's race, changing from one heat to another.
In the first heat, for example, Getaria had a great race, setting a time of 20.29.42. Only Hondarribia, from the second heat, improved that time with 20.15.88. Thus, in the honor tanda, Orio had a competition not only with Zierbena but also with Hondarribia. Both gave them a challenge today, but the leader showed high quality once again, and deservedly lifted the banner after completing the race in 20.06.60. Hondarribia was second, and Zierbena third, with 20.21.50.
Consequently, Orio continues to widen the gap in the overall standings: Iker Zabala's team has 145 points, Zierbena has 122, and Bermeo is third with 111.
Finally, the performance of the men's second boat is also noteworthy, as they competed today in Errenteria (Gipuzkoa) in a time trial and finished ninth, leaving Astillero, Lapurdi, and Arkote behind. Deusto won with a time of 19.36.62. Orio finished in 20.29.39, a few hundredths of a second less than Astillero.
In the standings, Orio is in 11th place with 33 points, a margin of five points over Arkote, who has accumulated 21 points so far.
