The event, held at the UKUE headquarters in Zarautz, was attended by members of regional institutions, social actors, and representatives from the economic sector, totaling around 30 participants. The main objective of the session was to strengthen local responses to the challenge of climate change.
The deputy Jose Ignacio Asensio and the president of UKUE, Ion Arozenak, emphasized the "importance of reinforcing cooperation between institutions, associations, and citizens to provide effective responses to the consequences of climate change".
During the event, a specific climate diagnosis for the Urola Kosta region was presented. It was highlighted that the area is "particularly conditioned" by "its coastal exposure and the sensitivity of certain natural spaces." Among these, the Special Conservation Areas of Pagoeta and Izarraitz were mentioned, where "high levels of vulnerability to the effects of climate change are identified".
Furthermore, it was recalled that the presented analysis also focuses on the high exposure of the region's coastline, "especially in Zarautz and Zumaia, where risks associated with marine floods and beach erosion exist due to sea-level rise".
