The athlete from Aia completed the challenge in 59 minutes and three seconds, despite initially aiming to finish in under 64 minutes. The combined event required lifting a 100-kilo spherical stone 50 times, cutting ten kanaerdikos (logs approximately 39.8 centimeters in diameter), and running five kilometers.
The challenge, originally scheduled for Saturday, was moved to Friday to avoid adverse weather conditions. Although Izeta VI took longer than expected with the axe, he managed to recover lost time and significantly improve upon his predictions during the running segment.
Izeta VI surpassed himself and set a record that will be very difficult to beat for those who dare to try in the future.
With this impressive display, Izeta VI solidifies his position as the athlete to beat in the upcoming Basque pentathlon championship. The qualifying round will take place on July 18, and the grand final, after a year's hiatus, is scheduled for September 27.
Izeta VI was not the only athlete to excel in Zarautz. Lierni Osa also set a record with a spherical stone, achieving 70 lifts in ten minutes, surpassing her target of 63 lifts.
Zarautz's Lege Zaharren Enparantza gathered hundreds of spectators to witness these remarkable demonstrations of strength and endurance.
