Ituren's Stone Lifter Dominates Azkoitia's Large Stone Tournament

The favorite competitor achieved 55 lifts and a total of 5,009 kilograms using four different stones.

At the Chantoné Tournament of large stone lifting, held at the Gurea fronton in Azkoitia, the stone lifter from Ituren lived up to expectations as the favorite, claiming victory with 55 lifts and a total of 5,009 kilograms.

Dozens of fans gathered at the Azkoitia fronton to enjoy a competition featuring four female stone lifters. The contestants faced a demanding challenge in three-minute rounds, working with a 113-kilogram rectangular stone, a 100-kilogram cylindrical or cup stone, an 88-kilogram cube, and a 75-kilogram ball.
The draw determined the order of participation. In the first round, the lifter from Ituren confirmed her favorite status by achieving eight lifts with the rectangular stone. In subsequent rounds, she solidified her dominance, adding 18 lifts with the cylindrical stone, 10 with the cube, and 19 with the ball, reaching a total of 55 lifts and 5,009 kilograms, which secured her the victory.
The second place went to the Alavese stone lifter, with 38 lifts and 3,362.5 kilograms. The lifter from Azpeitia secured third place with 29 lifts and 2,587.5 kilograms. The fourth position was taken by the lifter from Orio, with 24 lifts and a total weight of 2,112.5 kilograms.
The lively event also showcased four young female stone lifting talents, who demonstrated their strength to the audience. The awards ceremony included a tribute to Luis Mari Bengoa, who concluded a long career dedicated to promoting herri kirolak the previous year.
