The PNV Assembly in Zarautz has designated Garbiñe Oiarbide as the candidate for the municipality's mayoralty in the upcoming 2027 municipal elections. The jeltzale party thus opts for a figure with experience in municipal politics and a track record linked to public service to lead its project for the coming years. Consequently, Xabier Txurruka, the current mayor of Zarautz for 11 years, will conclude his twelve-year term at the head of the City Council at the end of the legislature.
Currently the spokesperson for the PNV municipal group in the Zarautz City Council, Oiarbide has played a significant role in local political activity, participating in the management of municipal affairs and in the defense of the interests of Zarautz's citizens. The party highlights her "knowledge of the municipality's reality, as well as her management capacity and commitment to the town's development".
The Local Assembly has expressed its confidence in the candidate to lead a new political phase with the aim of "continuing to promote initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for the residents of Zarautz". As stated by the party's local leadership, Oiarbide "possesses the necessary qualities to face the future challenges of the municipality and continue developing a project based on proximity, dialogue, and teamwork".
For her part, the candidate has expressed her gratitude for "the support received" and her willingness to take on this responsibility. In the coming months, she will work with the EAJ-PNV team to develop proposals and projects that will shape the platform for the 2027 municipal elections.
The jeltzale party also wished to "recognize the work carried out by Xabier Txurruka at the helm of the City Council in recent years", highlighting his "dedication and commitment" to Zarautz. EAJ-PNV believes that his management has significantly contributed to the municipality's evolution and improvement, establishing a solid foundation for "facing future challenges".
With the designation of Garbiñe Oiarbide, EAJ-PNV begins the preparation process for the next electoral event with the intention of continuing to lead the development of Zarautz and working for the well-being of its residents. The jeltzales emphasize that "Zarautz cannot stand still" and that the commitment to the people of Zarautz "requires continuing to work every day to make our town a better place".
