Aitor Agirre and Maite Urteaga, cyclists from Zumaia, will be honored this afternoon in their hometown for their outstanding achievements at the Spanish Championships held in Sabiñánigo.

It has been a dream week for cyclists Aitor Agirre and Maite Urteaga. Both athletes from Zumaia competed in Sabiñánigo (Aragon) over the past few days, leaving spectators in awe with their performances. Agirre won the Spanish Time Trial Championship last Thursday in the Elite category, while Urteaga secured second place yesterday in the same category at the Spanish Road Race Championship.
To celebrate these accomplishments, the town will welcome both cyclists today at 7:30 PM at the Cofradía. This event aims to recognize the achievements of both athletes and demonstrate community support.

She put on a spectacular display on the road yesterday.

Regarding Agirre, he completed the nearly 31-kilometer time trial in 40:15.46, beating the second-place finisher, Eloy Teruel, by a mere 25 hundredths of a second. Although he did not manage to rank among the top finishers in today's road race, his dominance in the time trial was evident.
Meanwhile, Urteaga demonstrated remarkable strength on the road. Shortly after the race began, the cyclist from Zumaia broke away from the peloton, riding solo for approximately 120 kilometers. Thanks to her effort, she earned the silver medal in the Elite category, finishing behind Sandra Alonso, and secured sixth place in the overall standings.
