Participants from Azpeitia averaged 242,032 steps, surpassing Atxondo (235,200 steps) and Ermua (227,887 steps), who completed the podium.
The overall ranking considered steps taken and participation volume per municipality to balance small and large towns. Durango received an additional award for the highest number of participants (74), while Azpeitia had 34 registered individuals.
The individual prize for the person who took the most steps went to Izaskun Alberdi from Azkoitia. Organizers reported an excellent public response, with a total of 712 people participating and collectively accumulating 115,728,146 steps.
The second edition of the Mugiment Step Challenge ran from May 11th to 31st, featuring a virtual competition among 56 municipalities in Álava, Bizkaia, and Gipuzkoa that have a Sports Orientation Service (KOZ). Participants were required to log their daily steps.
The primary goal is to encourage citizens to take as many steps as possible daily to improve their physical and emotional health and foster a culture of physical activity. Individuals over 14 years old could participate by downloading an app and joining their municipality's team.
