The Azpeitia City Council has taken a crucial step in the urban transformation of the Amue area by granting permission to begin the demolition of the former Corrugados Azpeitia SL plant, reclaiming a strategic nine-hectare space in the town center.

The Azpeitia City Council has made significant progress in the urban transformation of the Amue area, issuing the necessary permit to commence the demolition of the old Corrugados Azpeitia SL factory. This authorization marks the beginning of the process to revitalize this strategic site located in the heart of the municipality.
The Amue area covers nine hectares, with seven currently occupied by a disused industrial zone. However, its appearance will undergo a complete change in the coming months with the start of demolition work, which is expected to last for six months.

"This is very positive news for the municipality, as we are getting closer to revitalizing an area that has been stagnant for years."

Nagore Alkorta · Mayor of Azpeitia
Mayor Nagore Alkorta confirmed that the council is in direct contact with the land-owning company, which has already announced its intention to begin demolition work “shortly.” She reiterated that the company itself will be responsible for carrying out these tasks. The process will involve several phases, including the internal emptying of the facilities, the demolition of buildings, and soil decontamination, all essential actions before the space can be repurposed.
The City Council plans to provide further details on the timelines in the coming weeks. The decision to grant the license was unanimously approved by the Governing Board. This progress is part of the special plan for the Amue area, definitively approved in 2024, which envisions the construction of housing and public community facilities in this key location for Azpeitia's urban development.
