The town of Azpeitia will host some of Euskal Herria's top elektrotxarangas on Saturday afternoons throughout May, offering a total of 8,000 euros in prizes and guaranteeing a festive atmosphere.

Saturday afternoons in May will come alive in Azpeitia with the vibrant music of some of Euskal Herria's finest elektrotxarangas. The town will be the setting for an event featuring seven musical groups, and this year's edition introduces a more ambitious prize structure than in previous years.
Specifically, the Euskal Herria Elektrotxaranga Contest, organized by the Azpeitia Town Council and the AZTE Old Town Hoteliers Association, will distribute a total of 8,000 euros in prizes. The winner will receive 5,000 euros, while the second-place finisher will get 2,000 euros, and the third, 1,000 euros. Additionally, the group that wins the jury's favor and takes first prize will also earn the right to perform at the San Ignacio festivities, coinciding with the end of July and early August.
The elektrotxaranga contest has become a fixture in Azpeitia's activity calendar each May. Each of the performances held in the five editions to date has transformed the streets of the old town into a true celebration. Hundreds of young people have accompanied the groups on their routes, adding a special vibrancy to Saturday afternoons in May.
This year's program will kick off this Saturday, May 9, with a performance by the group 3indarrok. The Navarrese elektrotxaranga won last year's contest and will return to Azpeitia eager to repeat that triumph, although it will not be easy given the high level of the groups participating this year.
Unlike subsequent days, 3indarrok will be the only group performing this Saturday. This is due to its coincidence with the Domusa Teknik mountain race and the associated programming. The Navarrese group will begin its route in Pérez Arregi square at 8:30 PM, traversing the old town towards the main square, filling the streets with music and joy, followed by a human tide, as is customary at each performance.
The program will continue on May 16 with the presence of elektrotxarangas Joseto ta Alayak and Elektrotxufla in the streets of Azpeitia. As will happen on subsequent Saturdays, the first group to perform will start its route in Azpeitia square at 7:00 PM, heading towards Pérez Arregi square, while the second will take the route in the opposite direction starting at 8:30 PM. The next groups to compete will be elektrotxarangas Sakatu! and Patxangoi, performing on May 23, with performances by OstiKda and Skapaie scheduled for May 30.
Once the performance schedule is closed, it will be the jury's turn. Composed of musical experts, the jury will consider criteria such as musicality, sound quality, interaction with the public, repertoire diversity, use of Euskera, and equality to determine who will succeed 3indarrok in the winners' roster.
