Azkoitia acknowledged the efforts for the Sahrawi people during the San Juan eve festivities, with the lighting of the bonfire by the Darahli association and Sahrawi women.

The Darahli association ignited the San Juan eve bonfire in Azkoitia yesterday, Tuesday. The City Council used this special occasion to recognize the work and commitment the association has shown in recent years for the Sahrawi people.
Several Sahrawi women living in Azkoitia and the sisters Leire and Irati Lizarralde from the Darahli association participated in the bonfire lighting ceremony, accompanied by the mayor Ana Azkoitia and councilor Igor Isuskiza.
Beforehand, members of the Sahatsa dance group performed the Gipuzkoa sword dance through the Old Town. They took to the streets around 21:30 and, after receiving the town's flag from the mayor, offered their first dance in the square. After a second stop at the church entrance, they arrived at Balda square around 22:00.

Gukak spoke with the town's mayor and Lizarralde from the Darahli association regarding yesterday's recognition.

Once the bonfire was lit and its flames had subsided slightly, the Sahatsa dancers resumed their performance.
