Azkoitia Hiria Chess Tournament to be Held Sunday with Twenty Teams

Next Sunday, the Azkoitia Hiria chess tournament will take place in Azkoitia's Kontzejupea, featuring twenty participating teams.

Organized by the Anaitasuna Kakute chess club, the Azkoitia Hiria tournament is scheduled for next Sunday at Kontzejupea. This event, marking its 44th year, will see twenty teams, each comprising three players, compete.
The participating teams include: Martintxo, Barakaldo, Santurtzi, Santurtzi Neskak, Zornotza, Liendo, Alfil, Altuna Uria, Beraun Bera, Billabona, Eibar, Eibar Txiki, Gros, Hondarribia-Marlaxka, and six teams from Anaitasuna Kakute.
The matches will be played in blitz format, with each game lasting three minutes and an additional two seconds per move. The tournament will consist of 11 rounds based on the Swiss system.
According to Anaitasuna Kakute, Sunday's event is considered a club day, aiming for all players and members to celebrate a "big day of chess" together.
Additionally, the tournament will honor Joxe Azkue on the fifteenth anniversary of his passing.
