According to the group, the demographic growth experienced by the Uribe Kosta region in the last decade, the development of important infrastructures such as the hospitals in Urduliz and Gorliz, and the increase in residents' work-related commutes have not been reflected in an improved public transport offering. Faced with this situation, they have highlighted shortcomings in both metro and bus services.
In recent weeks, the environmental group has been collecting signatures in several municipalities, including Berango, Larrabasterra, Sopela, Urduliz, and Plentzia, as well as at the Gorliz hospital. The campaign will continue in the coming weeks with the aim of extending its demands throughout the entire region.
“"The current situation leaves many towns and neighborhoods practically isolated by public transport, which directly affects daily mobility and quality of life."
The collective has proposed three specific measures to reverse this situation. Firstly, they request an increase in metro frequency, especially on the section to Plentzia, which is the lowest in the network. For this, they indicate that technical improvements could be made up to Urduliz without requiring a large investment.
Secondly, they advocate for extending bus service hours and reinstating night lines. They recall that a night service existed before COVID-19 but disappeared without justification, harming citizens with special working hours. Finally, they propose increasing the Bizkaibus offer, both in the number of lines and in frequency. They denounce that currently there are only two lines connecting the region, and these also have low frequency. Additionally, they have suggested creating shuttle services for towns not reached by the metro.
