Works to reorganize traffic around the Plentzia metro station are set to begin after the summer, likely in September, and will last approximately twelve months, aiming to enhance safety, accessibility, and sustainable mobility.

The main actions of the project include the construction of a roundabout on the BI-2122 road, the creation of new accesses to the Txipio neighborhood, the installation of two bus shelters on that road – allowing buses to stop without interfering with traffic – and an increase from the current 40 parking spaces to 80, along with a renovation of the esplanade itself, which will include green areas and trees.

"This intervention is strategic due to its direct impact on citizens, as it will significantly improve road safety, accessibility, and sustainable mobility in this area of the municipality."

The works are expected to last about twelve months, starting around next September. The investment exceeds 2.4 million euros, financed by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and the Plentzia City Council. Local authorities emphasized the importance of this reorganization for the town and acknowledged the work of previous local corporations and municipal employees, as this project has been addressed over five legislative periods.
Regarding the roundabout, its primary objective is to calm traffic, especially that coming from Barrika, by forcing a reduction in speed through an off-center layout. This measure will impact the safety of the nearby pedestrian crossing. The provincial action also includes the comprehensive reorganization and urbanization of the access to Txipio and the parking area. In addition to more parking spaces, new pedestrian areas, bicycle parking, a taxi stand, and a bike lane will be incorporated. The project is completed with various environmental measures aimed at its integration into the Txipio marsh environment.
