According to union data, Correos has planned for only around 25 contracts for the entirety of Bizkaia this summer. These contracts are intended to cover not only absences in postal distribution but also those arising in offices and logistics centers, with half of them lasting only one month.
CCOO considers this number insufficient to meet summer demands. The union explains that if employees on vacation are not adequately replaced, those who continue working must take on a greater workload. This, they argue, affects not only the daily lives of employees but also "the service that citizens receive."
Urduliz is highlighted as one of the affected municipalities. CCOO states that due to the staff shortage, daily postal delivery is not guaranteed in the town, a situation that has also been reported by several local councils.
CCOO reminds that Correos has approximately one thousand employees in Bizkaia and strongly criticizes the summer planning. According to the union, the lack of staff creates "precarious, unsafe, and unhealthy working conditions" while simultaneously degrading the quality of public service.
CCOO asserts that the situation was not unexpected, as the hiring committee prior to the holiday period had already warned that the planned replacements would be insufficient. With summer halfway through, the union reiterates that the consequences of the staff shortage are evident, both in the workload of employees and in the postal service offered in various towns.
