The Zizurkil Town Council has approved the construction of a multi-sport area in Atxulondo, aiming to meet deadlines for applying for subsidies from the Spanish Government.

The Zizurkil Town Council has approved the project to build a multi-purpose sports area adjacent to the Atxulondo cultural center. This new facility will serve various local sports sections, as well as the general public. The proposal was approved in an extraordinary plenary session to ensure the project could be submitted in time to apply for subsidies from the Spanish Government, which are intended to fund territorial transformation and depopulation combat initiatives promoted by local entities.

"Although it is not the project we have been proposing for years, we are aware of the need for similar facilities that Zizurkil deserves to be able to develop local sports; therefore, we have supported this project, prioritizing the interests of the citizens over strictly political ones."

The project will have a budget of approximately one million euros and will be carried out in two phases. Due to the “significant” investment it represents for municipal coffers, it is “vital” to obtain subsidies from various administrations, as highlighted by the socialist municipal group, to reduce the amount to be disbursed by the municipality. It is estimated that economic aid could cover up to a third of the budget, for which the municipal agreement must be presented to qualify for the aforementioned subsidy.
With this project, the socialist municipal group notes that it will address the long-standing request from the Danok Danena Weightlifting Club to train and compete in their hometown. Additionally, the facility will provide coverage for the Cycling Club and will feature better-equipped changing rooms for the Danena Football Club. Furthermore, the facilities will be available to the citizens of Zizurkil, in an accessible location that will improve the services they can enjoy once completed.
