The Tolosa City Council has begun preparations for the San Juan festivities, launching the call for chupinazo candidates and the poster design contest, fostering community involvement.

The San Juan festivities in Tolosa will take place this year from June 19 to 24, and organizational efforts are already underway. On April 14, convened by the Tolosa City Council, the first open meeting was held to form the festival committee. Now, the council has released details regarding the poster competition to announce the festivities and the process for selecting those who will launch the chupinazo, the rocket that signals the start of the celebrations.
Citizens have the opportunity to propose who will launch the chupinazo. To do so, a questionnaire is available on the municipal website until May 11, with the deadline closing at 2:00 PM on that day. To submit nominations, individuals must be registered in Tolosa and be over 16 years of age. Additionally, associations registered in the council's Registry of Popular Entities can also put forward candidates.

"Individuals, groups, or associations can be proposed as candidates to launch the chupinazo. However, they must meet certain characteristics, such as having a connection with the town, having contributed to Tolosa, seeking the well-being of the community, promoting cultural or social life, and fostering values such as culture, gender equality, diversity, the Basque language, and social inclusion."

The received proposals will be analyzed by the Department of Culture, Festivals, and Youth, and subsequently forwarded to the Festival Committee for a final decision.
Furthermore, as in previous years, a citizen will design the poster for the San Juan festivities. The open competition to select the announcing poster is already in progress, aimed at both amateur and professional artists. The deadline for submitting works also ends on May 11. Each participant can submit a maximum of three images, and the selected design will be used by the council in its advertising and the iconography of the festivities.
The guidelines for submitting proposals can be consulted on the municipal website. It is important that the images used demonstrate gender balance, without reinforcing traditional roles and stereotypes, and without derogatory treatment based on sex, race, age, culture, or sexual orientation.
