The association Tolosaldea Sahararekin has decided to reschedule its main events. The initiatives Maiatza Borrokan and Bueltaka, traditionally held in May, will be postponed to September and October. This change aims to optimize organization and boost participation, avoiding conflicts with other cultural and sporting events.
The children's reception campaign, named Oporrak Bakean, will begin with fundraising on September 20th. This year, three fewer children will arrive in the region compared to last year, due to health issues or return difficulties. One child who did not return to Tindouf will stay due to their health condition.
“"May is an intense month for activities. We want as many people as possible to come and connect the end of the year with the Sahrawi cause."
Eli Eizagirre, the association's representative, explained that they encountered difficulties in booking spaces like the cultural center hall or the Berazubi court in May due to the high number of activities. Therefore, to ensure participation and organization, most events have been scheduled for the first week of October.
The association has denounced the killing of three Sahrawi soldiers in Moroccan attacks in Western Sahara. Among them was Lehbib Mohamed Abdelaziz, son of the former Sahrawi president, and Salek Muhsen, who spent his summer in Marchena. The association described these as "unpleasant news" and questioned the pain of war and the silence surrounding it.
Fifty years have passed since the refugee camps were established, 40 years for the Oporrak Bakean campaign, and 25 years for the Tolosaldea Sahararekin association. The association calls for the Sahrawi people to have the opportunity to return to Western Sahara, so that the children of soldiers lost in the war can remember their fathers differently.
