The dream of fighting for promotion has concluded for the Tolosa CF women's team. Victories by their two direct rivals for the lead, Arratia and Athletic C, last weekend on the penultimate matchday, mathematically leave the Tolosa team with no options to finish first. The team had previously lost to Real Sociedad C (2-0) on Thursday in their rescheduled match.
While Arratia narrowly defeated Alavés B (0-1) in a hard-fought match, Athletic C achieved a more comfortable victory at home against Elorrio (4-1). These results keep both teams tied at 46 points at the top of the standings. Coupled with Tolosa CF's defeat, who are third with 42 points, it is now impossible for the team to catch up, as only one match remains in the regular season.
“"We are out of the play-off race, but from the beginning, we were clear about our objective, which was to be in the top positions, and that objective has been more than fulfilled."
The team's coach emphasized the significance of their achievements: "We are clear that football should be lived with a different philosophy. Fight to win every game, but without a defeat changing our lives. Ten years from now, no one will remember who finished first, second, or third; what's important is what the team has been doing these last few years. That's what we will remember."
While not a tragedy, losing the chance to continue dreaming "hurts," according to the coach, especially "because of how we lost our match, starting poorly in the first half." There will be nothing at stake for the team in the final matchday, on Saturday (6:45 PM) against Añorga at Usabal. Afterward, they will rest and look to the future: "We have never been this high, and who knows if next year we will be ready to go even higher or not."
